Don’t Make Coffee This Late

A poem, about coffee.

You know better,
Don’t make coffee this late
It’s going to keep you up
Surely, you need sleep

At this hour, put it back
That bag isn’t going to run off
In the morning, it will lurk,
Still bitter and tasting the same

Go to bed early!
Such practical advice,
But you’re not going to listen
No, you’re going to run

Not literally, oh no
You’re going to make
A questionable choice
And chug a large mug instead

It doesn’t even taste good!
Your sleepy brain argues
The heartburn kicking in
At this age, is it worth it?

Drink your almond milk instead
It’s a lot sweeter and better
Just in general
So much better than coffee

Too late! Brewing’s begun!
A familiar gurgle fills the air,
Like the symphony of something
Similar to a clogged drain

So, here you are
3 AM, doing laundry
Finally tired, mostly
And annoyed with yourself
